  1. Make a reservation: give us a call or email us with your contact information and which week you like to join and we will email you back a 10 day reservation confirmation.
  2. Once you receive your 10 day reservation you need to fill out and sign the dig application and enclose your 50% deposit and mail it to us at the address below. Remember this a 10 day reservation so we can not hold your reservation beyond that period.
  3. Once we receive your application and deposit we will email you your official confirmation with rendezvous details and a Digger’s Guide booklet.

Weeks 1 & 2 are planned for the Little Snowy Mountains 100 miles north of Billings, Montana.  This is a camp out dig experience.

This program can be for you even if you are not experienced, as long as you bring a willing attitude and will listen to staff as they train you in the proper excavation techniques. With many years of experience in paleontology, we guarantee to teach you something new and have a laugh along the way.

Note that each week is limited to 20 persons so space is limited! Don’t wait too long or we will fill up and you will miss out on a great opportunity. The two weeks for next year will involve excavations of exciting new sauropod and stegosaurus finds – a truly rare and unique experience!

To join us for a program please read all the information, complete and sign the application form below. If you plan for a child aged 13-17 to attend, then the parent must complete the application form and list each child and their age. No minors ages 13-17 can attend unaccompanied by an adult.

Fee Structure for Dinosaur Dig

The weekly fee for the “Little Snowy Mountains Dinosaur Project 2023 is $1,895.00 per person per week – meals included.

Fee details – Your $1,895 fee is paid as follows:

A 50% deposit of $947.50 for the Little Snowy Mountains Dinosaur Project is required to apply for acceptance on “Little Snowy Mountains Dinosaur Project 2023 (successful applicants will be informed by e-mail or phone). Remaining 50% balance of $947.50 is due no later than 6/1/2023prior to arrival. Make checks payable to “Judith River Dinosaur Institute.”

Refund Policy

In the event that you are unable to participate, the $947.50 deposit is refundable only if notification is received no less than 90 days prior to 6/1/23.

No refund of the deposit will be payable if notification received within 90 days of the applied for start date. Refunds are not transferable.

If “Little Snowy Mountains Dinosaur Project 2023 is canceled by the Institute, a full refund will be issued less a $100 cancellation fee.

If circumstances beyond the Institute’s control delay any “Little Snowy Mountains Dinosaur Project 2023,” participant’s associated costs due to such delays will be their own responsibility.

What is included with your $1,895 fee for the Little Snowy Mountains Dinosaur Project 2023? This program will be camp-out digs – no motels – and will offer a true Montana outdoor experience. Tuition includes all food and beverages (no alcoholic beverages) while we are at camp.

Participants must bring their own tents, sleeping bag and personal effects. All excavation materials will be provided. We will help coordinate the rendezvous point and ground transportation (shared participant cost) from and to Billings, MT. Lodging While in Billings

Boothill Inn is the official rendezvous and lodging while in Billings MT. for the JRDI and we have reserved a block of rooms around the dig dates for your convenience. The special rates will be $89 for a room with 2 queen size beds and $95 for a room with one king size bed. (Tax is not included in those rates.) They also provide complimentary shuttle service, serve a hot breakfast each morning and fresh baked cookies in the evening. They also offer WIFI throughout the hotel and have an indoor pool and hot tubs for guests.

Reservations can be made through their website at www.boothillinn.com. All you need to do is note that you are with the Judith River Dinosaur Dig and they will ensure you get that special rate!

Itinerary

Saturday:  Fly/Drive into Billings.  Check in at rendezvous point, Boothill Inn.  Note:  Boothill Inn offers free transportation to and from Billings Logan Airport.

Sunday:

               12:00 pm-JRDI staff meets team member sin the lobby of the Boothill Inn.  We load gear and assign vehicle transportation to the dig.

               12:30 pm-We depart from the Boothill Hill and make a 45-minute shopping stop at Wal-Mart

               2:00-4:00 pm-The team caravans to the base camp in the Little Snowy Mountains

               4:00-6:00 pm-Upon arrival, the team sets up camp.

               6:00-8:00 pm- Dinner, meet & greet, orientation

Monday-Thursday:

               7:00-8:00 am- Breakfast

               8:00-12:00 pm- Fieldwork

               12:00-1:00 pm- Lunch

               1:00-4:00 pm- Fieldwork

               4:00 pm- Clean Up and showers

               6:00-8:00 pm- Dinner & clean up

               8:00pm- Paleontology/geology presentations, campfire discussions, movies and cheap live music upon request

Friday:

               7:00-8:00 am- Breakfast

               8:00-9:00 am- Break camp

               9:00-11:30 am- Fieldwork + close quarries

               11:30-1:00 pm- Lunch, load and prepare for departure to Billings

               1:00-3:00pm- Caravan back to Billings

               3:00-3:30pm- Arrive at Boothill Inn, off load gear and check in

               6:30-6:45pm- Meet in the Boothill Inn Lobby and go out for dinner together in Billings for a fun evening and a great way to end the week!

Optional Saturday Activity:  Dino Lab open house for diggers 9am-12 Noon.  Don’t miss this opportunity to see the State of The Art Laboratory where your fossil finds will be prepared!
